Uninsured/Underinsured Motorist Coverage
This coverage is overlooked and probably the most important to have. It protects you. It compensates you if you are unlucky enough to be injured by a negligent driver without insurance or less insurance coverage than you carry. For example, if you are seriously injured by another driver with a $15,000 policy (and there are plenty of $15,000 policies issued), you can make an underinsured motorist claim against your own policy. If your limit is $500,000 cls, then you could receive up to $485,000 from your own carrier. The higher coverage limit is not that much more expensive.
